Dial Before You Dig

Dial Before You Dig

As part of our standard file setup and site research for any project, North Coast Design complete a Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) search on the property in question.

What is Dial Before You Dig?

“Dial Before You Dig is a FREE national referral service design to assist in preventing damage and disruption to Australia’s vast infrastructure networks which provide essential services we use every day.” DBYD Website htpps://www.1100.com.au

Completing a DBYD search allows us to locate any above or below ground infrastructure (Such as Western Power, ATCO Gas or Water Corporation) on a property so we can take it into account during the design stage, ensuring that it doesn’t cause further complications during council applications, or during the construction stage. The information does not pinpoint the exact location however is to be used as a guide with a duty of care to be exercised when working around any infrastructure.

This can assist during the design stage in multiple ways. One of which is it provides insight into which services the property already has (primarily sewer that can affect residential design). It also will show of any other underground infrastructure / services that may not be known to the property owner that have easement or building restrictions on. Having this knowledge allows us to know whether we are able to work around the infrastructure, or have to approach the design in a different manor or location, that will not impact on the infrastructure.

We are happy to provide our DBYD search to our clients at request however they are updated every 30 days, so may need to be revised at the end of the design / documentation stage of a project.

There is a vast variety of information on the DBYD website that you are able to look at yourself, however some of the plans and information may be difficult to read and understand. If you have any questions, then you are welcome to contact North Coast Design and we will be happy to be of assistance.

We recommend that before commencing any works, particularly excavating, that any trades or builders should conduct a Dial Before You Dig search.

If any damage to infrastructure occurs, you may be financially liable so in our opinion you would be silly to not have a free search completed!

If you have any further questions the please don’t hesitate to get in contact with the team at North Coast Design or check out the DBYD website (link to ) for further information.
